“Nature is full of shapes just waiting to be found.”
The journey begins in deep forests, among dark lakes and mossy hills, drawing inspiration from folk tales and historical ornamentation such as kurbits and Art Nouveau. Shapes from nature are mirrored and combined into new constellations and visual rhythms—sometimes forming symbols, sometimes unfolding as scenes from a hidden story.
Transparent layers of texture—moss, stone, and earth—are added on top of the image. Through this process, the works slowly weave themselves into a unique atmosphere, like a story quietly lurking in the woods. Each piece is a collage of photographs, digitally processed and then printed on paper, wood, or glass.
Catrin Schmeer is trained in traditional printmaking, and has worked as an illustrator and pattern designer in the textile and fashion industry. This is her art project to capture the magic of nature.
